One of my great loves is passing on the legacy of classical role preparation, and helping new people to understand Shakespeare and the classics. I especially love teaching people who have been confused or intimidated by Shakespeare before, and helping them come to a clearer, more intuitive understanding, really feeling that the work is their own.

The method I use is based in the teachings of Stanislavsky and Boleslawski, and was taught personally to me by Gregory Berger-Sobeck, as he taught it at the Yale School of Drama through the nineties and early aughts.

For Shakespeare, I give you a list of actionable steps, and take you through understanding and embodying iambic pentameter, sense stress, and mid-atlantic diction.

I believe that any piece you put yourself into, classical or contemporary, should be prepared with as much care and intention as Shakespeare would be. The methods I teach are ones that I personally use for any role I play, across genres and time periods of straight theatre, musical theatre, and opera, contemporary or classical in flavor.
